Jane Williams (nee Davenport) spent almost a decade training under Swiss master chocolatier Philippe Burger before forming her own company, Davenport’s Chocolates. Blackfriars was her first customer but now her little Newcastle factory now churns out beautiful artisan chocolates for all manner of customers including Café Royal, Stewart & Co and St James’ Park.

BLACKFRIARS CHOCOLATE DINNER

Friday 15th October 2010 at 7.30pm: £35 pp

Chocolate was originally used as a savoury ingredient before being used as a sweet and it’s still used in sauces for game dishes, Mexican moles and many others dishes. Tonight will be a celebration of all things chocolate with a brief but informative talk from Jane.

APERITIF

Crème de Cacao & vanilla vodka cocktail

STARTER

North Sea scallops, white chocolate, fennel & vanilla puree, mustard cress

It may sound like an odd combination but this really is a brilliant match made in heaven!

MAIN

Barbary duck breast, beetroot & potato gratin, Savoy cabbage, chocolate sauce

Chocolate has long been a perfect match for game dishes; here we use a red wine reduction and grate into it unctuous dark bitter chocolate for a mouth-watering thick sauce

DESSERT

Bitter chocolate tart, blood orange sorbet,

Coffee of your choice with Jane’s home-made petite fours
