Blackfriars newly refurbished medieval Guest Hall is already proving a big hit for diners wanting a venue with incredible ambience as well as fantastic service and mouth-watering food. The candle-lit Guest Hall, which has room for up to 50 diners on one huge convivial table and is part of the 13th century Blackfriars complex, is now open for Christmas bookings, private dining and its recently launched Medieval Banquets.

Last month saw the completion of the final stage of our refurbishment of our Old Dormitory Rooms and to mark the milestone, we’ve appointed Liam Knowles as our new Conference Manager.

Liam comes with loads of experience including stints with celebratory chef Gary Rhodes and would like to offer any organisation, who hasn’t used Blackfriars conference facilities before, the opportunity of a FREE AWAY DAY in our gorgeous Old Dormitory Rooms. With room for up to 40 guests in a theatre style or 100 standing guests, windows overlooking the medieval courtyard and catering from our award-winning kitchens, it could be just the space you’re looking for. Forever pushing the boundaries of value-for-money, Café Peel has just launched 2 fabulous meal deals:

£3 lunch deal including a freshly toasted panini, packet of crisps & bottle of mineral water

£5 dinner deal including dinner specials + 175ml glass wine or 275ml beer (dinner specials will vary each day – example dishes: Spicy Green Chicken Curry & Rice; Creamy Bacon, Tomato & Garden Pea Penne; or Veggie Chilli & Brown Rice.

The hunt began at Blackfriars Restaurant in Newcastle as Carol Thatcher launched the Supreme Sausage Sarnie competition. Not someone to mince her thoughts or words Carol says: “I have no doubt that each person believed theirs was the best and I’ve tasted some spectacular recipes. The Newcastle regional ‘cook off’ whittled down a fabulous set of entrants to produce Britain’s best banger buttie and they were absolutely delicious.”

Simon Brown, Blackfriars head chef also complimented the standard of entrants, saying I’ve tasted some great sausages in my time but these really are the best. Carol and I really enjoyed ourselves munching and chatting through all these mouth-watering creations, and well done to the winning entrant from Wallington Hall Northumberland.
