Award winning Journal columnist and beer writer of the year, Alastair Gilmour will be on hand to recommend the North East's best beers and how they can be well matched to food in our lively food and beer matching event.

The evening incorporates a six course meal of local mini classics including scallops & black pudding served with Tyneside Blonde, mini fish & chips with Matfen Magic and chocolate tart with Durham's Temptation ale.

The Newcastle Gateshead Food Festival returns this year and we're more involved than ever with events including:

  • Fresh Fish Supper on Saturday 2 May when we'll be collecting fish straight from the Newcastle Quayside to make some really fresh dishes for the evening - book your early evening table to be sure of the best fish!
  • Slow Speed Dining on Friday 8 May - gourmet dining where guests will move around a convivial table talking to different diners over an 8 course tasting menu
  • 3-for-2 Dining throughout May & June where you can enjoy a 3 course meal in 2 participating restaurants and get the 3rd meal absolutely free!

Roast corn-fed chicken with wild garlic and St Georges mushrooms

This is a beautifully light but flavoursome dish full of the joys of Spring!!

Season both of the chicken breasts with salt and freshly ground black pepper then place, skin-side down, into a hot ovenproof frying pan over a medium heat and cook until the skin is golden-brown, then add the 6 peeled baby onions and ½ tsp caster sugar to the pan....view more
