Welcome to the historic Blackfriars Restaurant, the time-honoured traditional British restaurant in the heart of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and the oldest dining room in the UK.
Blackfriars uses local and seasonal produce wherever possible as this not only helps cut down on our carbon footprint but also helps support the local economy and provides us with the freshest and often best-value produce available.
There’s an abundance of great produce all around us; mouth-watering aged beef, old breeds of pork and lamb, delicious award-winning cheeses and ice creams, fragrant heather honey, really good organic vegetables, super-fresh fish and a host of award-winning beers.

At Blackfriars, we even grow barrels of herbs right outside the kitchen door, harvest walnuts from the trees in the courtyard, grow organic vegetables on our allotment and collect wild garlic, nettles and blackberries from Jesmond Dene and hedgerows out in the country.
On our Map of local food and drink producers, we have listed some of our current favourite suppliers of food and drink produce and have also added some of our many favourite castles, homes and pubs.
