Welcome to the historic Blackfriars Restaurant, the time-honoured traditional British restaurant in the heart of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and the oldest dining room in the UK.
At Blackfriars we serve a classic but gutsy traditional-British menu using local and seasonal ingredients – often straight from the farm. There’s an abundance of great produce all around us; mouth-watering aged beef, old breeds of pork and lamb, delicious award-winning cheeses and ice creams, fragrant heather honey, really good organic vegetables, super-fresh fish and a host of award-winning beers.
At Blackfriars, we even grow barrels of herbs right outside the kitchen door, harvest walnuts from the trees in the courtyard, grow organic vegetables on our allotment and collect wild garlic, nettles and blackberries from Jesmond Dene and hedgerows out in the country.
Not only that but we produce absolutely everything from first principles – not just ice cream, sorbets, pies, pastries and bread but also gourmet sausages and burgers!
Because we like to keep our menus as seasonal as possible, although we always look forward to what's coming into season, we can't always predict exactly what will be available - so expect to be flexible.
Of course, if you need a menu well in advance then we’ll simply suggest delicious dishes using produce that is available all year round.
